Visiting Australian Psychologist, Lisa Lindley recently conducted a training seminar for 50 of Effective Aid International's refugee camp Social Workers.
These Social Workers, who are refugees themselves, are daily engaged in providing assistance to the 50,000 refugees who live in Maela Camp, situated close to the Burma border in Thailand. Many of the refugees have fled to the camp following an armed attack on their village and witnessed atrocities against their family and friends. Resulting trauma and emotional problems are a real issue among the refugees.
Lisa, who had previously presented a similar program to refugees in Uganda, led the Social Workers through a practial program by them participating in it themselves. There were tears, laughter and fun - but the bottom line was freedom, and the ability to lead others into the same freedom.
Thanks to Lisa and Dr Robi Sonderegger for allowing us to use this life changing program in the refugee community.
