There is little qualified medical help given to the millions of people who live in Eastern Burma. It is an area ravaged by sickness and disease with some of the most resistant strains of malaria taking its toll on the population and other serious illnesses like tuberculosis all too prevalent. With the estimated 650,000 internally displaced people in the region, malnutrition is also a major problem. Adding to this is the injury caused by the high concentration of land mines - reports tell us that Karen State is one of the most mined regions in our world.

 

Health care in Karen State is provided by a small number of NGO's and volunteers who risk their lives to take medicines and care into the sick and injured.

 

Effective Aid International is joining the fight against sickness in this region. Initially we are providing health and hygiene education to all the students in our schools, as well as taking care of their basic medical needs.

 

We have a great desire to expand our medical work. Most of the children in the region have not been vaccinated according to WHO standards and the level of basic health education is extremely low. We have a massive task ahead of us and ask you to join with us and maximize the results of the work we are doing.
