The Glory2Glory Dental Clinic commenced as the vision of an Australian dentist and his wife when they visited one of the border refugee camps with their family.
In partnership with Effective Aid International, the vision became a reality in 2009 when a permanent dental clinic building was completed at Effective Aid International's Maela Refugee Camp school. Information tells us this may be the only permanent dental clinic building in any refugee camp in the world.
At this stage it is not operating on a daily basis, but regular visiting dental teams have been providing much needed dental care and education within the refugee communities.
The purchase of mobile equipment has enabled the dental work to extend to other camps and communities.
Each time a team visits for a week, at least 100 refugees are treated for chronic or acute dental disease.
Refugees have been trained and resourced to deliver dental hygiene education in the refugee camp schools and communities as a major initiative to reduce the high incidence of dental cavities, particularly in children.
