BAAN FAH SIGHY CHILDREN'S HOME

Situated in Chiangmai Province, North Thailand, Baan Fah Sighy is an amazing oasis of love that takes in new born babies who are either orphaned, abandoned or rejected by their families. Children in crisis with no hope and no future, taking them into a loving family environment to provide for them, educate them and lead them into life with positive direction and a sense of destiny.

Human trafficking is a stark reality in the nations of SE Asia with many children being sold into prostitution by their families at an early age. Those at greatest risk are the orphaned, abandoned, poor and homeless and Baan Fah Sighy is always ready to rescue children in these categories.

Baan Fah Sighy works in close relationship with Thai Government Social Workers.

Opened in 2002 by Australian Phil Hohnen and his Thai wife Wanida, Baan Fah Sighy has been unique in many ways, not the least being almost all the children who have been accepted being new born and in situations of crisis due to the loss of parents or having been abandoned or unwanted.

Baan Fah Sighy is translated “Home of Blue Skies” likening the bright new beginning after a dark storm, to the hope given to these rejected and impoverished children who have found love and life at this home.

Co-founders, Phil and Wanida Hohnen oversee the running and development of the home and its staff of nannies, teachers and workers. An on-going building and development program is necessary to keep up with the changing needs of the children and to maintain a standard of excellence in all aspects of the facility.

A recent addition to the facilities at Baan Fah Sighy has been a swimming pool. It has been amazing to see how quickly the children have become "water safe" with the older ones well on the way to being competent swimmers.

Blue Skies School

Development has seen the original building now turned into an educational facility housing Nursery School, Kindergarten and Grade One. This school has been approved by teh Thai Education Department and will be providing formal primary education to the children of Baan Fah Sighy. The approval also allows admission to the school for children living in the region. The photos on this page show some of the children in their new school uniforms in the bright, well ventilated classrooms that provide a perfect learning environment.

A qualified school teacher is in cahrge if educating the Grade One children with visiting English teachers ensuring that language skills are developed at an early age. Kindergarten and Nursery School are taught by dedicated people qualified in the area of early learning.
